SEAOSC Sustainable Design Committee
VISION STATEMENT: The Sustainability and Resilience Committee champions the vital role of structural engineers in creating a sustainable built environment. We empower the local design community through advocacy, education, and collaboration, promoting design practices that integrate sustainability and resilience at every stage of the engineering process.
MISSION STATEMENT: Our mission is to advance sustainable and resilient structural engineering by serving as a central resource hub—developing, curating, and disseminating practical knowledge, tools, and guidance, and convening events that promote professional learning and collaboration.
The CALGreen 2022 mid-cycle update will include embodied carbon code language that structural engineers must comply with for all non-residential buildings greater than 100,000 sf and schools greater than 50,000 that will be permitted starting July 1, 2024. These updates will have an impact on our plan check process, how we specify our materials and how we collaborate with other consultants on ensuring compliance. The infographic below is designed to help structural engineers navigate the requirements for compliance.
