Meet Incoming SEAOSC Board Member: David Funk, SE

Posted By: Lucky Ylagan SEAOSC - Southern CA,

Meet David Funk, the newest member of the SEAOSC Board of Directors. A structural engineer with Labib Funk & Associates, David has been an active SEAOSC member committed to supporting and advancing the profession

"I joined SEAOSC for its strong local network and technical resources that directly support practice in Southern California," David says. "I feel all professionals should actively participate and support their industry association."

David's continued involvement has been shaped by the relationships and opportunities SEAOSC provides. "I've stayed because the SEAOSC community fosters mentorship, continuing education, and meaningful collaboration across engineering firms, as well as with our local government offices, helping to better local policy and codes," he explains.
As he begins his service on the Board of Directors, David hopes to help strengthen those connections while supporting the profession's continued growth.
For engineers entering the field, David emphasizes that technical skills are only part of building a successful career.

"Be curious and build strong communication skills," he advises. "Technical competence matters, and you should strive to become a true master of your craft, but the ability to explain solutions and work across teams will multiply your impact. Seek mentorship early, and embrace projects and challenges that push you beyond your comfort zone."

SEAOSC is proud to welcome David to the Board of Directors and looks forward to the experience, perspective, and leadership he will bring to the organization and the structural engineering community.
