September 2025 SEAOSD President's Report

I am honored to step in as SEAOSD President this year and want to thank Stephen Kerr, now serving as Past President, for his decades of leadership and dedication. His commitment has inspired me and many others to serve.
I am also excited to share that San Diego brought home the SEAOC President’s Cup at this year’s convention! The competition challenges member organizations from across California in both physical and mental events. After a slow start, our team rallied in the final challenge—building a surfboard-inspired flotation device that cruised across the hotel pool and secured victory. After many years, the trophy has returned to San Diego!
This teamwork reminded me of the legendary UCLA coach John Wooden, who led his teams to 10 national championships in 12 years. Wooden was known for teaching not only fundamentals but also character, sharing wisdom like: “Never mistake activity for achievement” and “It’s what you learn after you know it all that counts.” His players succeeded not only with talent but with teamwork.
In the same spirit, I look forward to SEAOSD members, committees, and sponsors working together this year to advance structural engineering, serve the public, support education, uphold our profession, and strengthen our community.
