President's Message - June 2026
SEAOC is taking important steps to position our association for the future. Earlier this year, the Board of Directors approved a reorganization business plan that provides a thoughtful, phased framework for strengthening how we serve structural engineers across California. Rooted in the values of collaboration, transparency, and long-term sustainability, this plan is designed to preserve the identity and strengths of our Member Organizations while creating a more connected, data-informed statewide association.
The approved plan is a multi-year effort focused on administrative integration, membership systems, governance, finance, and programming. In this first year, a major priority has been building the system’s foundation for a stronger member experience. That work is already underway through the implementation of a new association management platform (Novi) and an accompanying new SEAOC website - important milestones that move us from planning into action.
These new tools will allow SEAOC and its regional Member Organizations to operate from a more unified statewide system while continuing to support local engagement and leadership. The platform is designed to house membership information in one place, improve the accuracy of our statewide data, and give us better insight into membership trends, participation, and outreach opportunities. That data will help strengthen advocacy efforts, improve recruitment, and support more informed decisions about the programs and services we offer. The new website also creates a more seamless experience for members, with easier access to resources, events, and updates from across the organization.
We are pleased that SEAOSC joined us in the initial stage of platform transition, with the remaining Member Organizations expected to come on board later this year. As implementation continues, the long-term vision is clear: one login, a common statewide member experience, and one coordinated platform that makes it easier for you to engage. Once all MOs have transitioned their operations, members will be able to access events across the state more easily, track continuing education activity in one place, and benefit from more consistent communication and administrative support. We have also begun piloting features that will make membership and event participation more efficient for administrative staff in some of your firms – features include firm wide membership management or group event registry for members across the state.
Our new website was built with members in mind. As shared on the SEAOC website, your new member portal offers a centralized place to update your profile, register for events, review attendance history, view invoices, and access statewide resources. It is an important step toward creating a more connected SEAOC community and a stronger sense of shared membership across all four regions. I encourage each of you to take a few moments to log in, activate your account, and update your profile information if you have not already done so. Your participation is important not only to ensure you can take full advantage of the new platform, but also because complete and accurate member information will help SEAOC continue building a system that better serves our profession statewide.
This work reflects more than a technology upgrade. It is a meaningful step toward a more unified, responsive, and sustainable SEAOC by equipping us to better support members, advance our profession, and serve our communities for years to come.
