SEAOSD President's Report

This month’s Sold Out Student Night event was a big success. First, I want to extend a big thanks to all those that were involved in putting the event together, you are what made this event happen. Our organization is a success because of our volunteers, and the Student Night is a prime example of what we can achieve. I also want to thank all the sponsors for the evening. The students are able to attend the event free of charge because of your generosity. We were able to give out over $6,000 in scholarships and prizes for the night because of the sponsors.

For all of those in attendance I hope you got as much out of the event as I did. My involvement with SEAOSD has traditionally been more on the technical committee side of our organization, but spending the night hearing from, and interacting with, the next generation of our profession was invigorating. Having a strong bond between the universities and our association is important to for growing our organization and our profession. Hopefully after graduating, those students become SEAOSD’s newest participants. For anyone in SEAOSD looking to take part in this process there are several opportunities for us to interact with students. If interested, be sure to reach out to Heather and let us know.

Seeing presentations from the student engineering groups at SDSU and UCSD, and the competitions that they are involved with was getting my competitive spirit up. Speaking of competitions, next month (April 15th – Tax Day) is the second annual SEAOSD Trivia night. We are elevating the competition this year in a new venue, Home and Away in Old Town. I hope that individuals or teams of engineers are going to come out and test their knowledge against our fellow engineers. I am looking forward to seeing you all there.

If you have any comments, concerns or suggestions please let us know.
