This recorded webinar Concrete Shear Wall Example is from the six part SEAOC webinar series ASCE 41 Design Examples (FEMA P-2006). 

Since its original publication in 2006, Seismic Evaluation and Retrofit of Existing Buildings (ASCE 41) has served as a US consensus standard for seismic evaluation and retrofitting. The methods used in ASCE 41, however, differ in a number of ways from those used to design new buildings. To assist users of the standard, the Applied Technology Council, with funding from FEMA and assistance from SEAOC, has published FEMA P-2006: Example Application Guide for ASCE/SEI 41-13 Seismic Evaluation and Retrofit of Existing Building with Additional Commentary for ASCE/SEI 41-17. FEMA P-2006 provides illustrations of the ASCE 41 evaluation and retrofit methodologies and helpful information on interpretation and use of the ASCE 41 provisions. This six-week webinar series will present an overall introduction.

Michael Braund is a Principal and Office Director of Degenkolb Engineers’ San Diego office. Michael is a California-licensed Structural Engineer and is an active contributor to the seismic code development process. His professional career has been focused on the design and seismic retrofit of critical buildings. He is also an active member on ASCE’s standards committee that produces ASCE/SEI 41 Seismic Evaluation and Retrofit of Existing Buildings, and has served as Chair of the Structural Engineers Association of California’s Existing Buildings Committee.  Michael was a member of the Project Technical Committee for the ATC-124 project that developed FEMA P-2006.  He is a past president of the Structural Engineers Association of San Diego.
