Description: This article discusses structural detailing that is appropriate or required when different structural systems are combined in various manners (vertically, horizontally or orthogonally). Examples include light-frame shearwall with moment frame in a given direction, a moment frame vertically stacked atop a structural wall, and an orthogonal wall/frame sharing a common column/pilaster. Relatively few provisions associated with this topic exist within the referenced standards. Several of these provisions are examined herein.
